Choices of a Growing Woman
Published in Paperback by Heartsong Books (April, 1994)
Author: Maggie S. Davis
Average review score:

A remembrance of discovery
"Choices of a Growing Woman" is a celebration of a woman's life, her happiness, and her sorrows. One of the unique qualities of Maggie's writing is that she seems to be speaking directly to your own soul. When I read one of her books, I feel as though I just spent hours with a wise friend. One who takes me into her world of remembrances, collected wisdom, favorite quotes and stories about her life.

On this visit, she begins with 40 questions. This is the beginning of your path of self-discovery, or as I found out, a remembrance of discovery. My answers to her questions flowed easily, because at 33, I finally know who I am. Answering her questions will be eternally revealing for anyone!

Do we as women believe in our own power? Do we treat ourselves and other well? Are we kidding ourselves in any area of our lives? Can we take risks and forget our age? How do we discover who we are? Have we learned from the choices we made? Good or Bad?

e.g. Question 3: Can you name something you swore you'd never want to do (or be able to do) that you are doing now?

In this way Maggie becomes a guide along the path of awareness. As in each of her books, she appears as a friend and asks you to take a journey to self discovery. Each of her books are unique in concept, but all contain a piece of her soul. In "Choices" she has the most important concepts listed at the beginning of each chapter. Then she expands on those ideas.

"Now gradually, my life choices have evolved to the point where they work well for me as well as reflect my willingness to take responsibility for my life. Smaller choices have brought me, finally to those larger ones and these larger choices hour by hour, where I am going." --Maggie Davis

Maggie explains how she was not always happy, but now accepts and makes a conscious choice to nurture her inner child. I think many women who have been through a traumatic divorce or who lost their soul mate will relate well to this book. I also noticed that because I went through a great loss in my life, I have also learned so many of the same "survival techniques."

If you have never met anyone who sees life the way Maggie does, you owe it to yourself to read her thoughts. I am always pleased to meet people who have learned from life. She also says what we feel, have thought and want to think.

I loved her idea of making a place in our minds where we can always be at peace. I have a cabin in my mind with an herb garden, skylights and a window facing the mountains. There is also (oddly) a tower with a winding staircase leading up to it. I sometimes leave the windows open and lean out of the window with my elbows on the well-worn window sill so I can feel the rain on my face and the salty breeze whipping through my hair.

A comforting meditation on transitions in a woman's life
Davis doesn't give answers, just the comfort of knowing that you are not alone as you search for meaning and struggle with change. She offers some coping techniques, but basically reaffirms your right - and need - to feel what you feel. I've loaned it out so often that I'll buy several.

The Christmas Note
Published in Hardcover by Nashville Book (November, 1997)
Authors: Skeeter Davis, Cathie Pelletier, and Carl E. Hileman
Average review score:

Wonderful story for all ages.
I think that anything Cathie Pelletier writes would be beautiful, and she's proven it again by taking on someone else's childhood story of a Christmas visit from Santa, to a poor child in Kentucky. You and your kids will really love this poignant tale.

THE Christmas book to give to children
Skeeter Davis, the greatest of Grand Old Opry female vocalists, has written an unforgettable children's Christmas book based on her own childhood. This is THE book to give to children for Christmas - about the true meaning of Christmas versus material gifts. The children you love could scarcely have a better role model than the wonderful Miss Davis, truly one of the most beautiful souls around and a great human being.

The Christopher Factor
Published in Paperback by Xlibris Corporation (12 July, 2000)
Author: Lindsey S. Davis
Average review score:

Excellent Read/Good Twists
I am a fan of many genres and had no idea what this book was about until I read the first couple of pages. 24 hours later and I finished the last page with avengence. Davis writes with a plan and gives you bits of information as he builds towards the climax: excellently placed. Do not underestimate the beginning as twists and turns shock you throughout your read. This book is one of the new titles out of the POD (Print On Demand) technology that is evolving. This books proves that quality can come from the vast content being produced. By the way, those of you who like X-Files will love this book. Have fun reading!!

A truly excellent Thriller!!
Hi, This is actually the first review I've ever written, but The Christopher Factor by Lindsey S. (Bear) Davis was so enjoyable I felt it my obligation to say so. (I even sent him an email through his website, which was actually how I stumbled onto TheChristopherFactor.com in the first place. There are about one hundred pages of the novel online, as well as some real cool art and music). Dave Jeffries and Vic Donato are the most real cop characters to come along in a long, long time. They talk like real people talk. The relationship between the two is rich, these guys have been partners for seven years and you can tell. I also dug how the story began in 1975. The reader gets a look at what some of the characters looked and acted like when they were in their late teens and early twenties. Then the story picks up 25 years later with all this intrigue taking place in and around Los Angeles. It kept me turning pages from the very beginning. This is this guy's first novel. I guarantee you hear about him in the near future. I 'll even bet The Christopher Factor ends up as a movie!! If you like to read King and Clancy, you'll definitely dig The Christopher Factor. Happy reading, one and all.

The City and the House
Published in Paperback by Little Brown & Co (Pap) (October, 1989)
Authors: Natalia Ginzberg and Dick Davis
Average review score:

wonderful
Ginzburg tells a very touching story of a very close, honest group of friends whose main source of communication is the seemingly lost art of letter writing.

A beautiful book, just beautiful.
If you read anything by Natalia Ginzburg, read this gorgeous novel set in various houses and flats around Rome, Italy and New Jersey. The story is told in letters, but Ginzburg's characters are not emotionally-confined as one might expect with this genre. This novel examines love and its duration, across years of friendship and parenting.

The Complete Guide to Beading Techniques
Published in Paperback by Krause Publications (June, 2003)
Author: Jane Davis
Average review score:

For the Seed Bead Connoisseur
For the person who loves working with seed beads in close, detailed hand work, there are a lot of techniques to try in this book. Most of the projects involve some type of sewing beads together to create beautiful tapestries for home decoration. There are pieces to be framed and hung, coasters, small bead weavings for decorating other surfaces, such as small boxes. There are projects for decorating lamps with beads and accessories such as small purses and a scissors case. Some projects require you to knit with very small knitting needles, incorporating the beads into the knitting. One project escapes from seed beads momentarily to show how to do wirework to make jewelry items.

There are quite a few stitching techniques used, such as brick, square, ladder, and peyote stitch. The instructions are very good, with large drawings showing the beads and the direction of thread passed through them. One nice touch is that instructions are provided for a small practice piece for some of the techniques.

The projects are beautiful and delicate pieces of art for patient crafters, and for those who have never done this type of work before, there's a lot to learn.

WONDERFUL HOW-TO BEAD BOOK!
This book is beautiful, easy to understand, and includes beading techniques for the beginner up to the most experienced beader. A great source book for beading projects and information.

I have the german version and for sure this is a masterpiece
Ullmann encyclopedia of IC is an excellent chemical guide for any person interested on chemical processes including pharmaceutical and food industries. The version we own is from year 1954 and is in german. Current edition is too expensive for any individual...I wonder how many libraries own a new edition. I am open to any further discussion about this collection...I am thinking on donate it...

This is the greatest encyclopedia of science
I own the 2nd edition (from 1933) of this work, and I still use it almost weekly. I would love to buy the latest version, but cannot afford it.

Consulting to Family Businesses: Contracting, Assessment, and Implementation (Organizational Development)
Published in Paperback by Jossey-Bass/Pfeiffer (September, 2002)
Authors: Jane Hilburt-Davis and W. Gibb Dyer
Average review score:

This is an extraordinary resource for family business owners
Jane Hilburt-Davis and Gibb Dyer have made a significant contribution to the emerging field of family business consultation. They deliver good practical advice along with thoughtful insight about the pushes and pulls that families feel as their companies grow and thrive. In the short time I've owned this book I've had to move it closer and closer to the "most used" section on my book shelf. Clearly these authors do hands-on consultation everyday, know what they're doing, but have also thought about how to share their ideas with family business owners and other consultants. 'Very readable. It's just a great resource.

A Must for Family Business Consultants
This book is a true gift for those who are entering the field of advising to family businesses or those who have been at it for years. It is comprehensive and thoughtful, a true benchmark for the subject of the consulting process with family owned busineses.
